~ Re-Envisioning Imaginary Companionship as a Psychospiritual Phenomenon ~

While childhood imaginary companionship is pervasively experienced, it has historically been misunderstood, sentimentalized, feared, and/or devalued.  A breadth of Psychodynamic and Developmental research has clearly posited imaginary companionship far beyond the earliest interpretations fearing demonic possession.  Dr. Langone will revisit this psychospiritual perspective on imaginary companionship, drawing upon Humanistic and Transpersonal psychology.  In so doing, imaginary companionship will be re-envisioned as a personal creation mythology akin to mystical states of consciousness.  This presentation will offer a theoretical explanation regarding the purpose of imaginary companionship (teleology) with ancillary attention given to categorical and causal analyses of imaginary companions and the children who create them.
